I wrote a song for the grades 4s and 5s about living in South Korea. I call it Korea Beats! The song has four repeated rhythm patterns, called ostinatos. The students performed the four ostinatos with speech, then played them on instruments! They even helped me choose which instruments would sound the best. This required rhythm notation reading and knowledge of instrument playing technique. Korea Beats reinforces musical steady beat and their listening ear, in order to hear how the parts to fit into each other.
Here's the lyrics:
1. I really like to go to the beach. (played on tubano)
2. Yummmmm...bulgogi! (played on guiro)
3. (I really like) riding on the subway! (played on maracas)
4. Bu-san...We are in... (played on triangle)
Enjoy the clips!
